Chandra Shekhar was the 9th Prime Minister of India, serving from 10 November 1990 to 21 June 1991. He was a veteran Indian politician known for his simplicity, integrity, and fearless stand on democratic values. He was born on 17 April 1927 in Ibrahimpatti village, Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh.

Chandra Shekhar began his political career as a freedom movement supporter and later became actively involved in socialist politics. He was deeply influenced by leaders like Acharya Narendra Dev and Ram Manohar Lohia. He emerged as a strong voice for farmers, workers, and the poor. Due to his outspoken nature and bold views, he was often called the “Young Turk” of Indian politics.

In 1990, during a period of political instability, Chandra Shekhar became Prime Minister with the support of the Indian National Congress from outside. His government faced serious challenges, including economic crisis, political pressure, and instability. Despite having a short tenure, he took important steps to stabilize the economy and maintain national unity during a difficult phase.

Chandra Shekhar was known for his honest lifestyle and commitment to democratic principles. Even after leaving office, he remained active in public life and continued to speak fearlessly on national issues.

He passed away on 8 July 2007. Chandra Shekhar is remembered as a principled leader who placed the nation above personal power and stood firm for democratic values.
